The quick answer, unless you are a tree surgeon, is no.

This isn’t as easy a job as it may seem and there are certain things you need to know when removing it properly. It is best to know exactly what you’re getting yourself into, so let us explain.

Why should I remove the tree stump? Can’t it stay there?
Yes, of course it can stay there, but here are some reasons why other people choose to have tree stumps removed:

Tree stumps are unsightly. Stumps can make a beautiful garden look messy. Tree stump removal is an easy way to improve the look of your garden.

Many people decide to remove tree stumps when looking to sell their homes. So that that it isn’t a  factor to put potential buyers off.

Stumps take up space. Could it be put to better use? What could you do with that space?

Protect your home from your tree roots.  Tree roots have been known to damage pipes or sewage lines. If you are planning on stump removal, it is important to have a professional tree surgeon remove the roots of your tree stump so that there is no risk for root growth.

Protect your lawn from decay and pests. Tree stumps can spread decay and invite unwanted species into your garden. For instance, termites, beetles and other wood-boring insects. Once your stump has been infected it can spread to healthy trees or shrubs nearby.

A tree stump can also grow fungi, which is dangerous for pets and small children. It is best to get the entire stump removed to prevent decay, mould, or infected wood from spreading.

Tree stumps can be hazardous. Young children may trip over a stump or tree roots.

How to get rid of stumps and roots?
If you’ve decided that stump removal is what you want, hiring a tree removal expert really is the best way to go. Removing a stump needs proper equipment, to make the job go smoothly. They will know the best way to remove the stump, whether that be burn or grind the stump down. By having the proper equipment there will be little damage to the rest of your garden.

Using a stump grinder is the easiest way to rid your lawn of your stump and only takes a couple of hours.

Burning the stump is cheaper than stump grinding, but takes much longer time to be effective, up to a couple of days. Once the chemical mixture has spread within the stump, it will be set alight. The tree will smoulder. Once it has burned and cooled down, the stump will be easy to break apart and remove.

As you can see, either route requires specialist knowledge, which is why we recommend that you call the professional in.

Tree Surgeon Essex_Open during Covid 19
At Tree Surgeon Essex, our staff are still working during the Coronavirus outbreak. Here is some information for you, to reassure you that we are taking it seriously and adapting the way we serve our clients.

We have been carrying out work as scheduled, with domestic clients, providing they have side access so that no brush/logs need to be removed through the house.

We have been phoning domestic clients prior to us attending to ensure that they are still comfortable with this. We are able to provide new quote to clients, if we can view the trees via a side gate or if they are at the front of the property to avoid contact with anyone.

The other appropriate changes are as follows:
  • Our trucks are only allowed to carry two members of staff maximum. This leaves the middle seat vacant and provides a suitable distance to reduce the risk of cross contamination.
  • Both crews carry hand sanitiser for regular use during their working day.
  • The cab of each truck is cleaned at the start and finish of each day.
  • The Contract Manager is working independently, quoting, setting up work, checking the completed work etc.
  • The office is selecting the appropriate work which will allow the crews to work at a distance from the general public.
  • The only housing work being carried out is the sites where we have already vetted as appropriate for work to be carried out during the present situation.
  • There is only one member of staff at each office.
  • Sanitisers are supplied for both offices.

We are listening to all updates so we can keep up to date with the changes as they are implemented.

If you would like any tree work or hedge trimming to be undertaken during this lockdown period, please contact us on 01708 578 017.

Please stay safe, this period will pass.
